“Oh, for cute!” Minnesota and Wisconsin

July 9, 2023

Arrived in Amery, Wisconsin today after a quick drive through eastern Minnesota with a stop at Kaffe Stuga in Harris.

Quick check in with Jon and Asher – who are harvesting honey today! Thanks so much for taking care of Robbees!

Sunday night we stayed at the Bicycle Bunkhouse in Dalbo, MN. Our host was a ‘retired’ farmer – Donn. His hospitality was unmatched! There was a fully stocked pantry with all the delights every cyclists would ever crave! Donn even had a top notch bike stand, so Rob took the time to rotate his tires and give Rex Le Trek a bit of a tune up.

Bathroom with the shower right next to it! Delightful!

We camped right out front within a short walk to the bathroom and kitchen!

Cyclists from around the world have been to the Bicycle Bunkhouse!
Such a variety of adventure cyclists have stopped to take advantage of Donn’s hospitality – he’s world famous!
THANK YOU SO MUCH Donn!
AMERY, WISCONSIN

We discovered how important it is to really check each other’s maps – I keep an atlas with Verne and it has the AC mapped route highlighted. Well, I just took for granted that our next stop was going to work out as it looked like it was about 20 miles from Osceola, MN – Let’s face it – I have been doing a stellar job of finding our next port of call – Rob just would cross into Wisconsin and I would see him late afternoon.

I had seen him earlier in the day and it appeared he had a bit of a tail wind. Unfortunately, that did not last and the wind shifted or the route did – I really am not too sure about what exactly happened.

I was anxious to get to the campsite to plug in for a long 25 hour 30 amp charge. The sooner I got there the better. The weather was lovely, and I took my book down to the water.

The wind has not been too kind to Rob today on the ride, but I sailed into Wisconsin and landed at a quaint RV Park Resort – Port Valhalla on Pike Lake.

Meanwhile, Rob continued his battle with the wind and the route.

By late afternoon – early evening – I was getting a bit worried – okay maybe a little frantic – should I break camp and go and find him? Thank goodness for my sister and her navigation skills from afar. She was able to see him and assured me he was on his way but it looked like he was taking the long way round.

Lucky for me – one of our friendly camp neighbors – Tom – answered my distress call – well, to be honest – he took one look at my face and said what do you need?

He’s one of my favorite human beings evah!

We found Rob and Tom guided him to our site. Now, not only was he gracious enough to offer to drive me to find Rob, his wife Laurie invited us to an egg bake breakfast the next morning! HOW ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS [thanks Darla!]- This fine group of humans hail from Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin – However, they are all winter neighbors in FLORIDA!

Blessing abound with this group!

Keeping the rubber side down! Julie and Rob
