Closing in on home

July 28, 2023

Medina, NY is a quaint yet thriving town along the Erie Canal. This is our first stop along the canal route.

Medina was known for mills, barrel manufacturing, foundries, furniture making, and for its sandstone which varied from light grey to deep reddish brown. There was also a POW camp located here with up to 300 Italian and German soldiers.

This village is rich in history!

Andrew was our host at the Hart House

Historic building and hotel where we celebrated our 39th anniversary with fancy cocktails at the Shirt Factory and then dinner at Zambistro! YUM!

Rob rode along the crushed blue stone for over 75 miles, finding the conditions unfavorable for the long haul – 360 miles.

I did get to ride with him to get a taste of the trail into Spencerport.

We found our way to Pittsfield just east of Rochester for the night. We are moving closer to home each day – mile by mile. We will be just west of Syracuse for Saturday night.

It is July 29, and Verne and I return to the open road soon. While Rob forges his own route East.

It was a soaker today and I found Rob about 25 miles from our final stop for the day. This will be our last night on the road together.

Treated to a few breathtaking and thought provoking views today on my way.

Rob will continue on a new route using Warm Showers and will map his own ride home.

I’ll keep you posted and most likely will be posting from home tomorrow.

I’ll be checking in with Rob getting updates on his ride home too.

Until then, keeping the rubber side down, Julie and Rob

  1. Hi, glad to see you have made it to the land of my youth, as a kid we used to ride our bikes down and watch the barges come through the locks in Phoenix NY. What a great adventure!!

Looking forward to seeing you back home!
