Leaving Virginia and North Carolina

April 10 through 12

On our way to meet college friends in Durham, we took a self guided tour through Petersburg National Battlefield. We only took one wrong turn ~ well, I only took one wrong turn which led us right to the front gate of Fort Lee. WHOOPS!

Over nine months during the longest siege of the Civil War, General Lee’s Army fell into further decline leading to his surrender April 9, 1865. Civilians were included in the 70,000 casualties along with thousands of the brave soldiers of the U.S. Colored Troops fighting for the freedom of their race.

We headed to EV charge and were a bit waylaid*, however; we made it to dinner with one of Rob’s college roommates and his wife, Dave and Debbie. Good thing too because we were treated to a delicious home cooked meal with brownies for dessert. YUM! We promised to return because the hours flew by and we were due in Rolesville to spend the night with a childhood friend of Rob’s and his wife, Jim and Sue.

*EV CHARGE or Meet and Greet?!

Jesse, an EV enthusiast, had a gift of the

Matchbox model car of the RIVIAN.

Spending quality time with friends is truly good for the body and mind. Sue and Jim are the most excellent hosts and we felt right at home immediately. Thank you so much for all the chats, sips, laughs and just plain relaxing down time. We even got to watch a Bruins game! I’ll sign off for today as we drive south for a few days in SC and GA. However, I cannot go without a loving nod to my new pal, Jack.

Jack is a Sue and Jim’s young Golden Retriever, who found his way into both our hearts.

Jim treated me to a trip the the Farmer’s Market in Raleigh.

Keeping the rubber side down, Rob and Julie
