Texarkana to Daingerfield

May 1 – 3, 2023

STATE LINES – LITERALLY
Texarkana sign Arkansas style
Texarkana sign from Texas
Music City according to the sign outside of this little town of Linden.

We stopped at a pizza place to get a bit of lunch outside of Texarkana on our way to Daingerfield State Park. There was a giant mural painted welcoming us to Music City. There were small bandstands in the pizza parlor – seems like a sleepy little town. Who knows what happens in the evening – we will have to check it our another time.

This state park had it all, camping [cabin rentals too] swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, shopping, and casual strolling too. There was even a full service camp store and cafeteria.

We were looking forward to a few days in the woods and we were not disappointed. Within our first hour there, Rob was suited up for a mountain bike ride. A few minutes later he brought back another mtn biker, Wynn. They hit the trails and Rob gave him a little lesson is mountain climbing –

Beginning in 1935 until 1940, two CCC companies developed this park in an area of Texas known for its agriculture, iron ore, and timberlands. The 2891, a white unit, and the 1801, a black unit, harvested the lumber and used stone and concrete to construct many of the features of this park. They created trails, culverts, retaining walls, help to establish the lake by building the Lake Dam. It is a beautiful park that is impeccably maintained with hot showers and tiled floors in the bathhouse. We enjoyed a bike ride together a late afternoon hike and an evening stroll at sunset.

Daingerfield is a CCC camp and another claim to fame – Bill Monroe wrote a tune and named it after this town, “Old Dangerfield”.

Now that’s a roller if ever I did see one! Keeping the rubber side down and headed to visit family in the Dallas/Forth Worth area and then onto New Mexico and Bureau of Land Management Camping. Thanks for following our venture, Julie and Rob
